00:01 mats nobody has even mentioned slavery yet
00:01 mircea_popescu since for some reason we're doing home of the slaves & land of the cowardly discovery : " The Jimmy Ryce Act (Jimmy Ryce Involuntary Civil Commitment for Sexually Violent Predators' Treatment And Care Act) was passed unanimously by the Florida legislature and was signed by Governor Lawton Chiles on May 19, 1998, becoming effective on January 1, 1999. The act calls for inmates with sex offense histories to be reviewed by the F

Upon release from incarceration, these inmates may be subject to civil proceedings and commitment to a secure facility for treatment. That treatment center, located in Arcadia, was criticized because treatment is lacking (less than 5 hours per week), it lacks security (sev

10:26 asciilifeform yeah i have nfi how to create this mark with laser. even at firing squad range,

10:28 asciilifeform incidentally asciilifeform just now woke up from interesting dream where he visited some handle-like usg figure's house that featured a handy platform for 'executing spies', complete with stone chair, manacles, barbecue pit, audience stands
10:28 mircea_popescu not a bad dream.
10:29 asciilifeform it was very much in character, somehow, with the mental image the 'patrioty', more backwoodsy usg types appear to have of themselves.

10:30 mircea_popescu heh
10:33 asciilifeform i am inclined to believe that some of the allegations not pertaining to death rays are true. психушка is indeed a thing in usaschwitz.
10:34 asciilifeform (where they work on victim's weaknesses and ignorance, and actually do a fine job of inducing degree of madness)
10:36 asciilifeform and, incidentally, microwave illuminators for audio bugs, as invented by leo thermen, still in use today worldwide.
10:36 mircea_popescu but in this case the alleged psykushka kicked her out.
10:36 asciilifeform and may handily account for some of the 'death ray' tales.
10:36 mircea_popescu it is true the us uses "medicine" to wash its hands on social problems, ballas has well explained this, article is cached on trilema
10:37 asciilifeform those'd be other problems.
10:37 mircea_popescu nevertheless, like any strained mechanism supposed to do one thing in theory and another in practice, the practitioners aren't too keen
10:37 mircea_popescu and so often the sherriff goes "here's a load of items of the right type - we don't know what else to do with them" and the psych ward lead goes "fu bitch, none of these belong here take them out"
10:37 mircea_popescu leaving the sherriff puzzled... "in training they told us to dump here evertything we don't know how to otherwise process. wtf ?!"
10:38 mircea_popescu and on the other score : the weak and the ignorant are mad and have no excuse. i don't mean no excuse to mistake. i mean no excuse to be.
10:40 asciilifeform let's cut in another direction. say, not my house (which is studiously ignored even by pigeons, i have nfi) but... e.g., BingoBoingo's - he picks up microwave background, thick enough that birds are dropping. gets rf burns when touching conductors (as i suspect that chick got in the photo)
10:40 asciilifeform what's the recommended answer ?
10:41 mircea_popescu nah, he touched conductors... with her thigh ? wut ?
10:41 asciilifeform idk, iron dildo?
10:41 mircea_popescu the recommended answer will be an array of assays. "get ye so and so item from amazon and do so and so with it"
10:41 asciilifeform well yes, chick also had toolbox
10:42 asciilifeform then what.
10:42 mircea_popescu then do something other than post a billion pics of anon people sitting in room and ONE clearly mislabeled item
10:42 mircea_popescu post some actual proof.
10:42 asciilifeform if complain to official organs - we already know where train goes.
10:42 mircea_popescu set up go-pro system to watch live set-up and dump it online
10:42 mircea_popescu science be science.
10:42 asciilifeform dump what? pics of trees?
10:43 mircea_popescu and ftr, if i one day ran into aliens, i would similarly not report it to the closest police preceinct
10:43 mircea_popescu this because i'm not "a citizen" aka consumjer aka idiot, but one of those elite folks to whom law doesn't apply and to whom the police are a tool not an entity.
10:43 asciilifeform it is trivial to illuminate a house from several 100 m, through another's property line, or from parked vehicles
10:43 mircea_popescu consequently i don't give them to solve problems they're not there to solve.
10:43 mircea_popescu nah, pics of your detectors in action.
10:44 asciilifeform well yes, i grasp that mircea_popescu would have the perp's safehouse broken into and the screaming operator dragged out, tied to a plank, etc
10:44 mircea_popescu makea a blog, call it "joe and katy's radioastronomy garage lab". post the weirdo data live, let people come visit...
10:44 asciilifeform sorta what was linked, neh?
10:44 mircea_popescu neh
10:45 mircea_popescu what was linked was a sort of scrapbook, much alike what a "our wedding" album would look in the hands of a deranged housewife.
10:45 mircea_popescu her fucking parents ? are you kidding me ?
10:45 asciilifeform limited mental wattage, yes.
10:46 asciilifeform but basic principle... yes, operator will turn off the machine if neutral third party comes to visit
10:46 asciilifeform then go and prove worth a shit.
10:46 mircea_popescu third party comes to visit to see how the detectors are wired
10:46 mircea_popescu not that they report something noteworthy as the visit progresses.
10:47 asciilifeform betcha this has been done, by one or more, and dismissed as schizo.
10:47 mircea_popescu link plox
10:47 asciilifeform because it so well patternmatches schizo.
10:48 mircea_popescu i dont see that it does.

10:48 mircea_popescu so then. there's no excuse for not having blog, for not being in wot, for etc.

10:57 mircea_popescu well, it's new.
10:58 asciilifeform tru.
10:59 mircea_popescu in other lulz, back 20 years ago, friend being pursued by especially insultingly incompetent "secret service" called in a hit on their car. boxed them in, got them out, beat the shit out of them, took them to police station as per tradition. police wouldn't make arrest, he berated them a good one. and left.
11:00 asciilifeform sorta why in usa they shoot first, ask questions after.
11:01 mircea_popescu at the time, possibly still today, secret service wasn't armed.
11:01 asciilifeform lulzy
11:01 mircea_popescu much like the ru iirc. pretty much everyone competent in the field eschews the nonsense.
11:01 mircea_popescu wtf sort of secret agent operates infantry iron ?
11:02 asciilifeform infantry ~support~
11:02 mircea_popescu hm ?
11:02 asciilifeform american snoops typically have police cover of one kind or another,
11:02 asciilifeform specifically against this scenario.
11:03 mircea_popescu "typical cover" is exactly like "standard key"
11:04 mircea_popescu point remains, a "secret agent" shooting is not unlike a "mathematician" doing finger-addition.
11:04 asciilifeform i have nfi whether it is effective, for all i know snoop is being well-beaten just around the corner. i only know the procedures.
11:04 asciilifeform but yes.
11:04 mircea_popescu i suppose in theory it could happen.
11:04 asciilifeform seeekrit folk in actual life dun usually shoot, except in self-defense
11:05 mircea_popescu i can scarcely think of a situation where spook's odds are improved by shooting.
11:05 asciilifeform paid hit contractor dun count, i suppose, as 'spook' ?
11:05 asciilifeform for this observation
11:05 mircea_popescu well, trained dog dun count as mathematician ?
11:05 asciilifeform counts as sapper!111
11:05 mircea_popescu i dunno dude, someone who is qualified in their chosen profession.
11:06 mircea_popescu so it turns out upon examination that it's not as much "us snoop has police cover" ; but rather that "some police grunts are deluded into thinking themselves snoops to accept lower paychecks"
11:11 asciilifeform we also know that exceptionally-deserving lucky folk get handled by private contractors (as i'm certain m. hastings was)
11:11 asciilifeform and not by police of any description.

12:37 asciilifeform there is, apparently, whole 'parallel world' of junky 'measurement tools'
12:37 asciilifeform purchased by nobody other than 'wavies'
12:37 asciilifeform who never, afaik, once got a hold of, e.g., a used 'fluke' field strength meter, or any other adult toy.
12:37 mircea_popescu it's mindboggling poor dersign. so for one thing, the measurement mechanism for magnetic is liable to influence measurements for electric and vice-versa.
12:38 mircea_popescu for the other thing, how do i make sure i don't burn this item, since apparently the same needle responds to 3 unrelated things ?
12:38 asciilifeform i bring it up because this is somehow, at least in my mind, eerily analogous to the 'legal remedies' crackpottery portrayed in mircea_popescu's 'sops of government clerks' piece

16:31 ben_vulpes if you're hitting this failure path, gpg will complain that it doesn't have stan's key

20:46 hanbot i had the same problem with V99994, ftr i suspect it's a user permissions issue as when i try to manually check that sig against the vpatch gpg complains it can't open the file (and that particular patch was just alphabetically first, ergo not special)

21:43 mod6 i may post a few pics here later.
21:43 BingoBoingo mod6: You remove it and you caulk the new one in
21:43 BingoBoingo And supply the faucet etc
21:44 mod6 oh yeah. except when girl wants whole new thing.
21:44 BingoBoingo Oh, so you hew a new vanity cabinet from timbers?
21:45 BingoBoingo Anyways, impact trauma is the enemy of tempered glasses
21:46 mod6 <+BingoBoingo> Oh, so you hew a new vanity cabinet from timbers? << lol. no.
21:49 BingoBoingo Then look on the bright side. Any plumbing project where you didn't have to worry about where to put the water after you use it isn't so bad.
21:52 mod6 ok: update on hanbot's test. she was able to clear the previous error.
21:53 mod6 but when it came down to it, she hit another error; her Ubuntu 10.04 test environment doesn't have `sharutils', a package that contains uuencode/uudecode. which is what V99994 is using to decode the deedified dependencies from deedbot.
21:54 mod6 so instead of using uudecode for this process, I'll have to reconfigure the script to use base64 looks like.
21:54 mod6 no worries. will make some changes and come back for another round of testing this week.
21:55 mod6 <+BingoBoingo> Then look on the bright side. Any plumbing project where you didn't have to worry about where to put the water after you use it isn't so bad. << naw, certainly could have been worse.
22:00 BingoBoingo Also gotta avoid the temptation to use pipe wrench when installing supply side threaded anything.
22:00 BingoBoingo Or circles become eggs
22:01 BingoBoingo And the water eggogs out
22:05 mircea_popescu base64 much better than pulling in utf crap
22:15 mod6 i think i might have to re-deedifiy all those deps.
22:15 mod6 because i can't decode those files with the base64 binary.
22:17 mod6 for instance:
22:17 mod6 $ cat openssl-1.0.1g.tar.gz.uu.asc | sed -n '/begin-base64/,/====/p' | base64 -d > openssl-1.0.1g.tar.gz
22:17 mod6 base64: invalid input
22:19 mircea_popescu uh
22:20 mircea_popescu i don't get it, why not just use gpg armor ? wtf uu
22:20 mircea_popescu maybe im confused.
22:20 mod6 i went down that path first.
22:21 mod6 with `gpg --armor --sign` but, like we discussed, one could not tell what thing is contained.
22:22 mircea_popescu hm
22:22 mod6 tbh, i thought that base64 and uuencode/uudecode did the same thing.
22:22 mircea_popescu apparently not
22:22 mod6 i mean, it does say: 'begin-base64 664 openssl-1.0.1g.tar.gz' at the beginning of the encoding.
22:22 mod6 so apparently those are lies.
22:24 mircea_popescu im still lost on "one could not tell what thing it contained".
22:26 mod6 <+mod6> because i can't decode those files with the base64 binary. << maybe im doing something wrong here.
22:27 mod6 will try this again
22:27 mod6 <+mircea_popescu> im still lost on "one could not tell what thing it contained". << when discussed & shown, they are large signed/armored files. (with `gpg --armor --sign`)
22:28 mircea_popescu ok. and i recall they were getting a header or is this something else ?
22:28 mod6 As I understood, we didn't wanna use that becuse one wouldn't be able to read the disclaimer or the "begin-base64 644 <FILENAME>" to see what the deed actually contained
22:28 mircea_popescu {This blob is so and so : [then large pile of stuff]}signed
22:29 mircea_popescu and the pile itself could just be put through gpg --armor, afaik you don't HAVE TO encrypt. i think ?
22:29 mod6 i guess to me, that meant clearsigning a pgp signed message. guess i didn't try that.
22:30 mod6 <+mircea_popescu> and the pile itself could just be put through gpg --armor, afaik you don't HAVE TO encrypt. i think ? << good question. i think you might just be able to armor.
22:30 mircea_popescu well lemme prototype this quick see if what i have in mind works.
22:31 deedbot [Qntra] Eulora Released 0.1.2 Update Released, Record Loot Follows - http://qntra.net/2016/08/eulora-released-0-1-2-update-released-record-loot-follows/
22:31 mircea_popescu hm apparently that doesn;t exist in stock gpg. my bad.
22:31 mircea_popescu BingoBoingo too many released ?
22:32 BingoBoingo ty fxd
22:32 mod6 hrm, guess not:
22:33 mod6 $ cat buildroot-2015.05.tar.gz | gpg --armor
22:33 mod6 gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
22:33 mod6 gpg: processing message failed: eof
22:33 mod6 <+mircea_popescu> well lemme prototype this quick see if what i have in mind works. << thanks!
22:33 mod6 <+mircea_popescu> hm apparently that doesn;t exist in stock gpg. my bad. << ah ok.
22:33 mod6 so anyway, lemme see if i can get this working the way I wanted with base64, i must be doing something wrong here.
22:33 mod6 this seems insane to me.
22:34 mircea_popescu kk
22:37 mircea_popescu BingoBoingo nice!
22:44 mod6 ok yup, im just mental
22:46 mod6 http://dpaste.com/01M9WSY.txt
22:46 mod6 so it turns out that base64 binary kinda wants nothing to do with those beginning and ending markers.
22:47 mod6 once removed, works as expected. seems like i can just alter my sed command and should be ok.
22:49 mircea_popescu so basically just spurious header added ?
22:52 mod6 yeah, header and footer.
22:53 mircea_popescu aite then
22:53 mod6 if you get rid of the 'begin-base64 ...' line and the ending '====', then you can use base64 to decode, no problem.
22:54 mod6 i was just oblivious to this.
22:54 mod6 sorry for the noise.
~ 26 minutes ~
23:20 BingoBoingo In other "bathroom and too many dollars are getting printed lulz" a product exists called "bluetooth speaker bathroom fan with led light" intended to be installed as your bathroom's exhaust fan...
23:26 mod6 alright, got a way to grab what's between the header & footer with sed:
23:26 mod6 cat buildroot-2015.05.tar.gz.uu.asc | sed -e '1,/begin-base64/d' -e '/====/,$d' | base64 -d > buildroot-2015.05.tar.gz
23:26 mod6 will update the V99994 script and start a new test cycle.
