14:34 ben_vulpes great now we can get https://www.oglaf.com/feeds/rss/
14:34 mircea_popescu old style clubs' way of working, at any rate
14:35 mircea_popescu ben_vulpes i dunno that i could be arsed to read/whatever a contract tbh ; but do you have a gearlist or anything yet ?
14:37 ben_vulpes not yet, still wrapping up the first courier run. when you say gearlist, you mean "machines Pizarro is buying and will lease out"?
14:38 ben_vulpes i have one machine that's about to come out of the crate that i'll detail on the blog; i'd intended it for vpsen but would also be happy to lease it entire.
14:40 ben_vulpes hey mod6 if there's demand for boxes, would you be averse to selling the machines we got for the foundation to pizarro for leasing on? we can always get another couple of machines, it's not as though the two we bought for the foundation are super important to get racked right now; i'm sure other folks might be willing to rent 'em out and that'd be a great thing for pizarro's cashflow
14:41 mod6 Hmm.
14:42 mod6 Well, first off, those are The Foundation's assets.
14:42 mod6 There may be some accounting considerations.
14:44 mod6 Feels like it'd be hairy. Although, I can see the possible necessity. If I can be convinced that the accounting will be simple and straightforward for the public, I'll consider it more.
14:46 ben_vulpes i've got a pretty cut-and-dried cost basis for those two machines. it'll look like an line expense for the machines and hardware, followed by a line of income for sale-of-assets matching to the satoshi, plus possibly a token fee to the foundation for assembling them.
14:52 mod6 The goal for the Foundation is to get 2, 1U rack spaces for machines to host trb + webhost/mirror.
14:55 mod6 I think the foundation should avoid this sale.
14:56 ben_vulpes mk then
~ 21 minutes ~
15:18 mod6 I suppose, if we could get the following commitments: 1) Someone in L1 (L2?) to source two new machines [with equiv specs] for The Foundation, delivered to ben_vulpes March 31st. 2) A delivery plan for these two new machines to Pizaroo in .uy.
15:19 mod6 3) Pizarro to signoff on 2U reserved for The Foundation.
15:19 mod6 That may make it satisfactory.

17:55 spyked hey mod6, I just checked v99993 using ffa ch1-5 and also used it to test a press of phf's vtools and it works fine. NB: Debian systems are now pretty much broken and won't allow setting the default gpg to v1, so I had to manually replace the gpg calls in v.pl to use gpg1.
17:55 shinohai neat spyked ... had any luck w/ w3m-js ?

17:58 spyked hi shinohai. I compiled it and ran it, but running trilema js still doesn't work. I've also tried a few other browsers with similar results. I am trying some simpler js snippets to get an idea of what works and what not

17:59 mod6 yup, i recall. thanks for posting that. I need to go through the steps myself. maybe can do here in the next couple of weeks.
18:00 mod6 I'd love to see others step up and work through that as well.
18:00 trinque would be great. once I've gotten feedback from several folks I'll genesis.
18:01 spyked shinohai, my guess so far is that text browsers completely lack window interaction (e.g. scrolling, text highlighting), so they can't do the Trilema bits. but I want to be able to give a proper answer, which requires a bit of debugging.
18:02 spyked and there are other things missing, e.g. links2 doesn't do regex parsing.
18:02 shinohai im using uxrvt if that matters btw
18:02 spyked me too
18:02 trinque mod6: contributed kernel configs for good hardware (goes right along with the republic's recommended hardware list) are wanted
18:03 mod6 Alright, noted. I'm basically using some generics + one that has broadcomm support.
18:03 mod6 Not sure of those are altogether interesting. But if they are, can throw them somewhere for review.
18:03 shinohai https://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article;sid=20180221201856
18:04 trinque nah, idea is that "this is the *correct* kernel config for particular machine M"
18:04 trinque and we get a repository of those going.
18:04 trinque creates a place for debate on *what's* correct
18:05 trinque kernel for machine M1 doesn't need any extra code present for drivers for M2
18:06 mod6 Ah, ok.
18:06 mod6 Sure, let's circle back around, I'll send what i've got. others can send theirs too.
18:06 mod6 republic needs its own os.

18:31 mircea_popescu ben_vulpes for instance ; or machines pizarro thinks are worth racking, with pros and cons. or anything really.
18:33 mircea_popescu spyked speaking of broken : "modern system" means that if you restart x, all gui apps die.
18:33 mircea_popescu because why just fucking restart x.
18:34 mircea_popescu and also, why the fuck would text browser lack highlighting. how's it supposed to even work.
18:35 mircea_popescu mod6 it is incorrect to start with the pie-in-sky "own os" though. it is instead correct to start with a catalogue of usable if unideal extants.
18:36 mircea_popescu !~later tell loren good idea to get your key in wot anyway ; otherwise the eventual "loren" will still be a day old item
18:36 jhvh1 mircea_popescu: The operation succeeded.

19:09 mod6 over-thought that WAY too much

20:20 hanbot in today's lols, i go to make the new vdiff, i get http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/WoPts/?raw=true
20:24 mod6 huh. did everything press ok?
20:30 shinohai II removed the error message thingy and works fine for me now, nothing: http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/3MUUj/?raw=true
20:34 hanbot mod6 yeah
20:35 mircea_popescu ben_vulpes to explain what i mean : there's some reality the contract handles (R) and some actual wording of the contract W. the delta R-W can be brought under an arbitrary value epsilon, but not to zero. the delta epsilon translates in a delta time dT you have to pour into the wringing of this allignment.
20:35 mircea_popescu then later, events E that fall within W will take (putatively) less time to resolve than events E' that fall within the epsilon ; however a) the probability of E'/E is not equal to the factor R/epsilon (but worse) and b) all this requires people actually read W, which is a cost (leaving aside how it's also something some won't pay).
20:35 mircea_popescu as in any case the E' will have to be resolved by recourse to the forum, and as b) is not all that insignificant, the dT investment is a poor usage of your limited T resource.
20:35 mircea_popescu meanwhile being able to authoritatively answer "buy X, not Y" is very valuable, because unlike the above scenario, where time you expend actually dampens republican affairs (as for every dT you put in, everyone has to put in some d'T as well), this on the contrary leverages : for every dT you put in, everyone DOESN'T have to put in some d''T.
20:35 mircea_popescu besideswhich : the "soft consensus" as to http://btcbase.org/log/2018-02-06#1781846 "is no good" has no actual backing ; and i strongly suspect you couldn't actually explain to me what exactly is wrong with either cpu or motherboard. well...
