12:44 asciilifeform thimbronion: unsurprise ('shrinkflation' in shops, where price -- same, but sack of $substance -- smaller -- has been going monotonically since '08)
12:45 asciilifeform ... a lul from linked page : 'The road to socialism via inflation: * Print money, crash the reserve currency, destroy savers, and force them into inflated assets. * Asset inflation leads to inequality. Demonize asset holders and tax the nominal gains, thereby confiscating the real value of the assets.'
~ 19 minutes ~
13:05 verisimilitude These people have no clue what socialism is.
13:05 verisimilitude Worse, they think it's bad.
13:07 verisimilitude Anyway, yes, I've also noticed, years back, how the prices stay the same, but the portions get smaller. Businesses have tried to claim this is good, because customers are ``less sensitive to portion changes than price'', but that's just another way of stating they're easier to steal from that way.
13:20 asciilifeform verisimilitude: aka 'shrinkflation'(tm)(r)
13:22 asciilifeform anyways, the 'tax the nominal gains' thing has worked equally well w/ au, and btc, and whatever other nominal escapes from printola.
13:23 thimbronion asciilifeform: I don't notice food costs much, but I think the guy is claiming a recent jump. I mean, I saw a dozen eggs at the fancy supermarket for $8.00, so I could maybe see where he's coming from. 4.00 used to shock me.
~ 18 minutes ~
13:42 verisimilitude I've not noticed such. I'd think if the prices were to increase dramatically, it would be among similar items first, ie. the pre-boiled eggs sold shrinkwrapped.
13:56 asciilifeform oblig.

14:09 verisimilitude It makes sense when we recognize most people are stupid. I could be stupid, but prefer to think I'm not.
14:19 verisimilitude The only way I know of to prove intelligence in any meaningful way is acts, and too few people know even this, thinking instead that feelings are all. What a horrifying existence, to do nothing novel for one's entire life.
~ 25 minutes ~
14:45 asciilifeform verisimilitude: imho once you start even thinking 'prove my intelligence...' yer breathing own exhaust pipe
14:58 verisimilitude There's merit to it. Don't have the impression I sit around thinking about it often. I don't believe it's a tainted topic which shouldn't even be mentioned.
14:59 asciilifeform verisimilitude: can mention, wainot, all you like. just like nuffin wrong w/ mentioning division by 0. as opposed to doing it..
15:00 verisimilitude It's but a natural consequence of observing others.
15:01 verisimilitude ``These people sure are stupid. Wait, how do I know I'm not aso stupid?''
15:01 verisimilitude What a sentence to have missed an error in.

15:33 trinque I have plenty to do, but the cultural machine we might call "the west" hasn't known wtf to do with itself since this ceased.
15:34 trinque could learn, perhaps. that'd be nice.
15:39 verisimilitude I could provide more thoughts on this, but I'd rather switch modes.
15:39 verisimilitude That saying, perhaps of Knuth, comes to mind, paraphrased: ``If only men would work on a few programs their entire lives, until they were perfect.''

16:17 asciilifeform trinque: the cleansing war -- will come.
