02:37 verisimilitude I read that translation, asciilifeform, and found it a fascinating little story..
02:38 verisimilitude While one can read it as a basic criticism of capitalism, a more literal and modern interpretation would have one looking at China or Africa, I think.
02:49 * BingoBoingo kinda though Boeing
02:49 BingoBoingo Or Lockheed
02:54 verisimilitude Defense contractors didn't get their starts from stupid hippies who thought feeding a problem was the answer.
02:55 verisimilitude This ``plasticine'' derived from this ``dragon'' can be interpreted as a decent metaphor for the quality of Chinese ``goods''.
02:56 verisimilitude On this topic, it disgusts me to read about this ``dragon'' siphoning away resources in the same way I'm disgusted whenever I see Westerners helping Africans.
02:58 verisimilitude I failed my goal to release part of that Ada software on 2020-04-28, but it was a soft goal; I could state my next goal, which I'm more confident in, but there's little point to it.

11:21 asciilifeform BingoBoingo, verisimilitude : fwiw when i read it through current-day eye, saw 'bankers'
11:23 asciilifeform plenty of cases where 'shoe fits' imho. e.g. 'green energy' racket.
11:24 asciilifeform verisimilitude: btw 'let's build pyramids so standard of living doesn't rise dangerously' is ancient, long pre-dates capitalisms .

15:07 verisimilitude I refer to a more comprehensive SHA library, asciilifeform; I finished a SHA-1 in December and this next library will implement SHA-1 and the SHA-2 family.
~ 53 minutes ~
16:00 * asciilifeform still doesn't fully grasp : wainot implement a hash that 1) dun exist in gnat lib, yet 2) actually used somewhere... e.g. ripemd160 (used in bitcoin) , say .
16:04 * asciilifeform doesn't insist that 'errything has to be useful'. some things (e.g. 'hashlife' ) are simply mathematically interesting... but sha1 is imho neither.)
~ 31 minutes ~
16:35 verisimilitude Well firstly, it's obvious I'm rather bored. Secondly, I now understand these algorithms, and it's been a nice opportunity to implement these across my three main languages, with design considerations from the whole influencing the individual members. Lastly, if I'm going to need these functions, and I expect to, I'm already going to write everything else myself, so I may as well write these too.
16:37 verisimilitude I've not yet looked at GNAT's design, but I'd be willing to wager mine's the better.

17:10 trinque verisimilitude: do you intend to keep using sha instead of keccak, or what?
17:23 trinque seems fine to do something as exercise. nobody asks why the guy doing squats doesn't find something more useful to lift, but if usefuless and exercise can coincide, all the better eh?
17:24 trinque would be e.g. fan-fucking-tastic to carve parts out of trb and into an ada incremental rewrite.
17:30 verisimilitude I've recognized it's taking a decent amount of my time from other things which interest me; I intend to also write SHA-3, but later, trinque.
17:37 asciilifeform trinque: i've been sawing at the 'get rid of bdb, have o(1) indexer in ada instead' thing for 2y+ nao, on&off. principal headache is the obscene impedance mismatch b/w the cpp liquishit and anyffin sane. the 'glue' threatens to be 10x larger than the original coad.
17:40 asciilifeform ( to be maximally concrete: all of e.g. this garbage would still be required, albeit in a slightly different shape )
17:42 asciilifeform the ~whole calamity of trb is that the internal representations for ~everything are thoroughly braindamaged. if you fix this, you get ~0 of the orig. trb remaining, i.e. same as total rewrite. if you don't, you get 100k loc of glue.
17:45 asciilifeform i.e. 'bolt sanity onto trb' to asciilifeform currently resembles 'sew wings on sow' .
17:46 asciilifeform it is possible to do it. but the result will simply be a heavier sow.
