So with P2Pool the idea is that you will run a mining "pool" that share's it's load with other mining "pools". There a cryptographic chain keeping track of work so that you can't cheat or mine a block and then keep it. So in the end instead of having one centralized plae where all the mining work is kept you get the benefits of the pool with bitcoin like decentralization. |
04:34 |
chalbersma |
In this case I forked the bitcoin p2pool implementation (https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool) added a better interface and ported it over to ATC pool (under the hoods it're really just a couple of lines). |
04:34 |
chalbersma |
Think is I don't think that anybody is actually using ATC P2Pool implementation anymore. The contract for the build had 1 month of runtime and then MP and Ragnar I believe ran the p2pool node for a while. But ATC didn't seem to catch on that much. |

the irc mechanism is perhaps the only built-in seed thing worth keeping |
10:16 |
shinohai |
No one has given me any "trusted" nodes yet. |

asciilifeform |
shinohai: irc gives next best thing: 100% pre-gavinization nodes |
10:16 |
shinohai |
how does that work? |
10:16 |
asciilifeform |
shinohai: irc seeding was snipped from the gavin branch long ago |
10:17 |

I know it was removed, but when I last spoke to mod6 I think he told me to just connect normally for now |

To whatever peers it connects to instead of specifying ip's |

stands to reason that once enemy engages he'll begin to spam the remaining irc seed chans - or even backport mechanism to his branch |

The business model is completey different from Exeter. To be fair Exeter do quite a good job for its size. We'll be smaller planes as a 'connecting airport' so you won't initially get many holiday destinations but it would connect into key cities and hubs. |

Before you can attract airlines you need to demonstrate passenger demand. There are models used around the UK which almost charter planes to use as an airline. If you have demand / good seat occupancy it works well. This happens in a lot of airports around the UK but planes are badged with other airlines. |

If you are using your own money to reopen the airport, you can just go ahead and open it. But to access money which is not repayable, whether it from Government or otherwise, they have to see that it stacks up over the long term and importantly that it has a wider benefit to the local / regional economy |

why would a billionaire invest in an airport? If they want to develop and grow Plymouth whilst also generating a good return. Recent studies from aviation industry have said that Plymouth Airport could add 240 jobs to local economy and £20m a year to wider economy. It also helps having one of the largest naval bases in Europe in Plymouth, which attracts manufacturers and business to visit the area |

We started Sand Hill Exchange as a fun game to let people bet on startup valuations. It is an enjoyable experience, but when we pushed aggressively to monetize we received a cease and desist from the SEC. |

We never had any intention of operating in a regulated industry, nor do we have the resources required to do so. We reached a settlement agreement with the SEC and are reverting to the uncontroversial free version of Sand Hill Exchange. |

no, it's also so that those present can tell who the fuck you are |
22:16 |
williamdunne |
Well, to be fair we already know who he is.. |
22:17 |
trinque |
you do, how do I? |
22:17 |
williamdunne |
Well, hopefully you'd trust me enough to auth him. So you should think it is him even if you don't cryptographically know its him |

22:18 |
trinque |
I'm not insulting the guy by saying "hello, who the fuck are you?" |
22:18 |
williamdunne |
Yeah, but I don't think its always that necessary |
22:18 |
williamdunne |
i.e if he was signing a contract, you verify that |
22:18 |
trinque |
so you do |
22:18 |
decimation |
williamdunne: it's necessary when there's a world full of zombies who want to waste your time |
22:18 |
williamdunne |
But if he's coming and saying 'hello' why the fuck does it matter? |
22:19 |
trinque |
because if I can see your face, and I've seen the face before, I'll know it |
22:19 |
trinque |
this is that for the internet |
22:19 |
decimation |
if by 'he's saying hello' you mean 'he has nothing to say', then it matters because of clutter |
22:19 |
williamdunne |
trinque: What about if I call you and say "Hey its Wil" |
22:20 |
decimation |
williamdunne: a poor but typical substitute for gpg auth |
22:20 |
trinque |
that conversation would a) not be a part of the public forum and b) if I knew you well, we could more or less establish who each other were by familiarity, but ^ it sucks |
22:21 |
trinque |
people should auth here for the same reason the deedbot- doesn't take any tattered scrap of paper from the street |
22:21 |
decimation |
imagine you were attending a lecture on the fourier transform. now imagine the lecture was taking place in an open booth on a london street |

I dunno, I just don't see auth as that important if they're not doing anything extraordinary |

22:23 |
trinque |

22:23 |

we used to have it that way; random derps would 'drop by and say hello' |
