08:52 Framedragger parseval: yeah i don't think sqlite is a good solution in terms of scaling. if you're using ORM abstraction, changing the underlying DB shouldn't be a prob, unless you're using some DB-specific functions. postgres is really nice for Shitloads of Data type of situations

08:54 Scrat sqlite will do 100k inserts per second on crapy hardware if you group them
08:55 Scrat and build indices afterwards
08:56 Scrat but you wouldn't use SQL for storing BIG time series
08:56 Scrat there are DBs made specifically for that. there are also generics like Cassandra or mongo that excel at it
08:57 davout Scrat: depends about what you call "big"

09:27 parseval Framedragger: I'm just using this as an intermediary store on my local box for some testing so I don't have to throw in a full fledged database.. It's a simple delete and rerun until everything is nailed down with the import. Eventually I'll move out to mysql or postgres for the actual application

09:29 Framedragger parseval: sure, just note that it's usually trivial (as in, perhaps only change the db configuration string in your app's config) to change the underlying DB (installing and starting a DB server with default config is also usually really simple) - but yeah, would be interesting to see your results eventually, good luck!

18:05 Framedragger syria broke off of internet, more or less :(
18:05 Framedragger http://labs.umbrella.com/2013/05/07/breaking-news-traffic-from-syria-disappears-from-internet/
18:06 error4733 i sold some ripple, any interrest ?
18:06 Framedragger someone asked, what would happen to syrian-based bitcoin transactions that were to be made offline.. :/
18:07 benkay hash by hand bro
18:07 benkay peer over tin cans and string
18:08 truff1es http://rt.com/usa/alamos-secure-internet-quantum-902/ possible?
18:08 benkay hard to peer with their setup
18:08 benkay node and spoke works well when you don't want a kerjillion nodes
18:09 benkay when you want a kerjillion nodes, perhaps more sane architecture is nodes that can peer
18:09 benkay hub and spoke, excuse me
18:15 Framedragger truff1es i think that's more about encryption.. in the end, you need actual fibres, or whatever physical medium to carry the data over.. and that's what's at issue in syria
18:17 ThickAsThieves bitcoiners could sponsor a web satellite for stuff like syria and egypt incidents
18:17 ThickAsThieves or google or virgin
18:18 Framedragger would be nice heh, but would still need hardware on their side to do teh communications
18:18 Framedragger tough times
18:18 Framedragger iran's elections in a month, and they're experimenting with DPI filtering right now, etc etc
18:19 truff1es seems govt usually 1 step ahead in matters
18:19 Framedragger *rambles about western companies selling off dpi equipment to authoritarian regimes*
18:22 KRS1 suprised DPI isnt everywhere by now
18:22 KRS1 the govt is 1 step ahead and the gov contractors are 5 steps ahead
18:22 KRS1 look at general dynamics and lockheed martin
18:23 KRS1 wish i knew what they do
18:23 KRS1 actually theres only one understanding of the osi model its how efficient you get at analyzing the layers and acting on the data..is where the trick is
18:24 Scrat truff1es: that link is full of BS
18:25 Scrat and DPI does jack shit on encrypted channels
18:25 Framedragger they _throttle_ encrypted channels
18:25 Framedragger apparently they have stateful dpi
18:26 KRS1 what do you mean by encrypted channel..a given TCP port with known encryption data?
18:26 Framedragger so it can (allegedly) create 'standard traffic profiles'
18:26 Scrat well sure, you can throttle port 443 without any stateful inspection
18:26 Framedragger yeah if it's ssl, they can profile ssl.. if it's just bare tcp, sure it's more difficult true
18:26 KRS1 gotta figure, if its being throttled, it might be undergoing decryption
18:26 assbot [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 2000 @ 0.00073729 = 1.4746 BTC [-]
18:26 assbot [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 3434 @ 0.0007373 = 2.5319 BTC [+]
18:26 assbot [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 5000 @ 0.00073782 = 3.6891 BTC [+]
18:26 KRS1 but..all that can be stored for analyzation later..so why throttle anyway
18:26 Framedragger the idea/speculation is, they are experimenting with things (iran is)
18:26 assbot [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 2023 @ 0.00073783 = 1.4926 BTC [+]
18:27 Framedragger speculation again (tor-dev etc): they're trying to discourage off-country services
18:27 KRS1 so let them..they aint gonna find anything new
18:27 Framedragger get people to use youtube.ir, iran's version of gmail etc
18:27 KRS1 good grief
18:28 KRS1 this is prolly all about censorship
18:28 Scrat KRS1: further analyzing will only work if they get their hands on the server's private key
18:28 Framedragger it's a more subtle social approach, i get it - why use the slow youtube when i can use iran's fast youtube which also has pirate filmzz
18:28 Scrat actually wrong
18:28 Scrat it will only work if they break the crypto
18:28 KRS1 you dont really *need* the key you have to figure it out
18:28 KRS1 right
18:28 Scrat most standard web setups use ephemeral DH keys nowadays
18:29 Framedragger but i think they're actually being rather clever here.
18:29 Framedragger oh they're also doing intense dns poisoning
18:29 Framedragger etc
18:29 KRS1 so their censorship is more effective
18:29 Framedragger how many people check/bypass certificate errors
18:30 Framedragger also (at least in syria) chopping heads off people posting pro-uprising messages on fb - sure it's about censorship.. to the most intense/grotesque extent
18:30 dub they don't need to break shit if they own teh CAs
18:31 KRS1 oh and its not iran necessarily to be grudged against..its Ahmadinejad..iranians are actually pretty cool folks
18:31 Framedragger well yeah, but as i understand it, browsers etc have lists of CA key fingerprints etc
18:31 KRS1 Ahmadinejad is an idiot maniac
18:31 KRS1 they should have split his wig when he was in NYC
18:31 Framedragger oh of course, by 'country X' i mean 'X state' - true
18:32 Scrat chrome goes as far as pinned certificates for google services
18:32 KRS1 browsers have root CA certificates so the entire certificate chain is complete without browser errors
18:32 Framedragger tbh his speech (afaik) has been very much distorted when translated - by nobody's to argue here

23:13 dub might be less actually, maybe 40k didnt sell
23:13 ThickAsThieves yeah
23:13 dub passthroughs I think just add more as they are ableto
23:14 ThickAsThieves yep, once I get enough sold, I'll end up buying more
23:14 ThickAsThieves wouldnt be surprised if most shares end up on the PTs
