01:03 gregorynyssa asciilifeform: I wasn't able to find a comprehensive explanation in #trilema concerning why the Ethereum project is fraudulent.
01:04 gregorynyssa would you mind briefly explaining? also, do you still consider smart contracts in general to be a worthwhile area of study?

09:36 thimbronion gregorynyssa: have you read http://trilema.com/2012/gpg-contracts/?
09:38 thimbronion gregorynyssa: also did you read the discussion of nlocktime?
09:42 thimbronion gregorynyssa: also surely there was some discussion of the dao hack and the reprecussions. Nothing fundamentally has changed about ETH since that particular smart contract was violated.

12:00 asciilifeform http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-10-22#1023451 << afaik no one had bothered to write a single-page likbez on the subj. the root of the matter is that it's a usg-sponsored (via mit) craftily-fraudulent item, built specifically as an instrument to undermine bitcoin and, as the perps hoped, to discredit the very concept.

12:02 asciilifeform gregorynyssa: the technical details of the flimflammery could fill a hefty book. all sorts of wonders, from the uncapped monetary base, to the jawdroppingly-complicated and porous 'smart' instruction set, to... i've no intention of writing the book.
12:04 asciilifeform http://logs.nosuchlabs.com/log/asciilifeform/2020-10-22#1023452 << asciilifeform does not, and never at any point has, considered 'smart contracts' to be a subject worthy of any attention whatsoever , outside of the strictly ~criminological~ attention merited by an artifact of fraud.

12:07 asciilifeform they were/are simply an instrument of the 'shell game' built into ethereum. primarily to complicate the matter of answering q's e.g. 'how much coin is there?' 'to whom does this-here coin belong?' but also to help in organizing 'jam tomorrow' mechanized chumpatrons of all types.
12:08 asciilifeform the use of the term 'contract', which traditionally refers to written agreements b/w ~people~ , to refer to entirely mechanical system, is also a (deliberate) abuse.
